Cecelia Pugh Receives First Butch Yahn Award

 

Butch Yahn (1932-2006) was a dedicated Hopeful City leader who believed the faith community should actively rebuild our community and it is fitting that Cecelia Pugh receive the first Butch Yahn Award. Sr. Pugh:

  • Was original member of Hopeful City's Housing and Neighborhood Deterioration Task Force;

    Oversaw process to engage over 300 people who live, work and worship in East Wheeling in developing the East Wheeling Revitalization Plan;

  • Designed 2003 Holy Ground action, 2005 March for Your Grandmother and 2005 action in which East Wheeling residents stopped a project they felt violated the East Wheeling Plan;

She is still:

  • Meeting with local, state and national officials US Rep. Alan Mollohan to discuss strategies to revitalize East Wheeling;

  • Working with Wheeling Housing Authority and others to develop infill replacement housing in East Wheeling and

  • Developing a collaborative plan with city officials and Hopeful City members to replace the 12th St. sidewalk.
